Pilot Pitch Lab

There's only two writing jobs in television: getting staffed or selling your own show. They are both difficult things to accomplish, but they are also VERY different skill sets.

So you didn't get staffed this year, now you need to sell a show. This 4 session intensive class will give you the tools, insight and hands-on experience to successfully pitch a TV show to a producer, studio or network.

In the class you will reverse engineer your pilot script into a kick-ass professional pitch. Most of us have pilot scripts that people love, but they don't love it enough to buy. That means something's missing. This process will also help you identify what isn't working with your pilot and will help you nail a rewrite.

Kevin Townsley has set up shows at SyFy, Crackle, Pivot, Sony, CBS Studios, Warner Brothers, FOX 21 and Fremantle. He has worked with Silver Pictures (Joel Silver), Divide Pictures (Milo Ventimiglia), That's Wonderful Productions (Jim Parson) and Wonderland Sound and Vision (McG) just to name a few.

This fast-paced class pulls back the curtain on the entire process that is usually only experienced by high level screenwriters and executives. In the first class Kevin will pitch you a show he's currently pitching so you can see what a professional pitch should look and sound like. On the last class you will pitch your show to Kevin (and the class). You'll learn a lot by pitching your own show, but you'll learn even more watching 7 others pitch theirs.

Required: At least one Script Anatomy class or equivalent experience.

Instructor: Kevin Townsley

Testimonial(s):

"The Pitch Lab is invaluable! And Kevin is awesome. Not only did I learn the ins and outs of developing, crafting, and delivering a captivating pitch, I also received a crash course in the business behind pitching . This is for anyone interested in selling something, being better in the room, or articulating their work ." – Felicia Pride, TV & Film Writer, Staff Writer on OWN's QUEEN SUGAR, 2016 Film Independent Screenwriting Lab Fellow, 2017 NBC Writers On The Verge Fellowship

"It really helped me fine tune and crystallize a pitch I was going out with. Kevin is so knowledgeable about the pitching process, dos and don't and what to expect if they buy it and if they don't. I highly recommend this class for anyone who wants to learn what it takes to pitch a show!" — Rowan Wheeler, 2017 Humanitas New Voices Winner, 2016 Final Draft Big Break Grand Prize Winner
