Your dream is to be a TV writer. You’ve been grinding hard writing pilots and specs for years and you finally get staffed! But then fear sets in: what’s it like to be in the writers’ room? How am I supposed to behave? Am I talking too much or not enough?
“Inside The Drama Writers Room Workshop” will pull back the curtain on this elusive world. All of your questions will be answered, and you will also experience what’s it’s like to “break” a story with other writers.
Every writer thinks they’re going to be staffed on “This is Us” or “Ozark”. But the harsh truth is you’ll most likely end up staffed on a show you’d never watch, don’t like, or that will be cancelled after it’s first season. To be successful in TV you have to be passionate about every opportunity. Thus the reason you just got a job on…
DIETLAND (yep the canceled AMC show created by Marti Noxon).
Your homework is to watch the pilot (and ONLY the pilot) and read the script. The workshop will be a “mock room” of your first day on the job where we will “break” episode two of the series. Throughout the experience the instructor will go over all the dos and don’ts of being in a writers room. You will RECEIVE THE PILOT SCRIPT AND STREAMING LINKS TWO WEEKS BEFORE the start of the workshop. Please read and watch the pilot before class.
The spirit of this four-hour workshop is to learn and have fun, but most importantly you’ll get insight into your future career and who you’ll be in the room.
Once you sign up you’ll be sent a copy of the pilot script and links to streaming services where you can watch the pilot episode.
Instructor: Kevin Townsley
"Bottom line, the class delivered exactly what was promised... I felt like I'd really been in a writers' room and, if I'm ever lucky enough to get to do it for real, there's a good chance I won't make a complete fool of myself." - Kevin Lee Miller
“Not only was Kevin an inspiring and patient teacher of the excellent Script Anatomy material, but his ability to complement that material with real-world anecdotes from his own experiences in TV writers’ rooms really made the information come to life.” — Nate Nauert
