TELEVISIONARY WRITERS WORKSHOP

The Televisionary Workshop is the very foundation of the Script Anatomy Curriculum. In this intensive 5-week TV workshop, writers have the option to focus on a TV spec or an original pilot. Your instructor will guide you step-by-step through the process of crafting your script from concept to solid outline using Script Anatomy tools. This applicable and hands-on course will help prepare you for staffing, development, and studio writing program applications, as well as give you tools that will be useful in your development process throughout your career.

Writers will learn tools to develop their TV scripts while completing weekly assignments on concept, pitching, character development, outline, etc.

Additionally, each writer will receive weekly peer feedback and instructor critique and evaluation of weekly assignments and material in a supportive environment.

TV SPEC & PILOT DRAFT INTENSIVE

This course is perfect for writers who have completed an outline and are ready to write their TV spec or pilot draft while reviewing and revising core structure and other key elements.

Starting with a pre-class PREP week, writers will read a selected comedy or drama script chosen by the Instructor as well as hand in their outline in its current incarnation in order to receive notes the first day of class.  In SESSION 2, writers will receive notes on pages from the instructor and their peers on the first half of their scripts; in the 3rd SESSION, writers will receive note on the second half of their scripts.

This is not a rewrite class, though there will be revising and retooling of story and key elements to elevate your material.

ADVANCED TV COMEDY PILOT LAB

This 2 week prep + 6-week intensive lab is limited to 8 students and is run like a professional writers room.

During lab, you will develop and write your material at the demanding pace expected in a professional environment using Script Anatomy tools.  All classmates are required to devote outside class time to homework, writing and, at certain points along the process, actively participate in the development and story breaking process each week.  In a professional writers room, you must participate if you want to keep your job.  Working this muscle will benefit you.

Aside from helping you develop, outline, and write your script in 6 weeks, Pilot Lab includes writing and business topic lectures.  This unique curriculum provides invaluable preparation for your first staffing job.

ADVANCED TV DRAMA PILOT LAB

This 6-week intensive lab is limited to 8 writers and is run like a professional writers room. Every writer is expected to actively participate: read materials, pitch ideas, give notes, and work together as a room to help fellow writers in the story breaking process each week.

This fast paced class requires that each writer devote outside class time to writing, homework and, at certain points along the process, reading other classmates’ material to give feedback. In a professional writers room, you must participate if you want to keep your job. Working this muscle will benefit you.

Aside from helping you develop, outline, and write your script in 6 weeks, this unique curriculum provides invaluable preparation for your first staffing job.

ADVANCED TV SPEC LAB

Aside from helping you develop and write your script in 4 weeks (with breaks in between for outline and draft), this unique curriculum provides invaluable preparation for your first staffing job.  Writers are also expected to actively participate: read materials, pitch ideas, give notes, and work together as a room to help fellow writers in the story breaking process each week.  In a professional writers room, you must participate to keep your job — working this muscle will benefit you.

"ART OF THE PITCH" WORKSHOP

This 4 session intensive is limited to 8 people and will give you the tools, insight and experience to successfully pitch a TV show.  This is an in depth crash course on what to expect when pitching a TV idea to a production company, studio or network.

This fast paced class offers insight into the pitching process which is usually only experienced by the highest-level writers/executives. When you sell your pitch to a network there are about five people in the room and this class will pull back the veil on that secretive process.

In this class you will:

Watch the instructor pitch a project he is going out with this season.       (This is invaluable — you never get to see behind the curtain!)

Learn key elements you must have to craft your pitch.

Discover how to hook and engage your audience from the get go.

Find out what to expect “in the room” when you are pitching.

Take your idea, outline or script and reverse engineer it into a written and verbal pitch.

Discover tricks and tips for memorizing.

Learn pitching do’s and don’ts.

Pitch your show to the class and receive feedback from instructor and peers.

REWRITE LAB

Need to rewrite your spec or pilot? This class is the place to do it! The instructor will read, evaluate, and customize a prescription for your current draft in the first session so you know exactly what to focus on in your rewrite.

This course is perfect for students who want to re-break or re-write an existing project entirely, but aren’t quite sure where to start.
